Emergency Triangles In Motor Vehicles | K53

Q: What is the law about carrying red emergency triangles in motor vehicles in South Africa?

emergency-triangle-for-vehiclesA: At least one double-sided reflective triangle, to SABS specifications, must be carried in all motor vehicles, all the time. (Motor cars first registered before 1 July 2006 are exempted.)

Previously this law applied only to commercial vehicles. Now it applies to all vehicles, including cars that were first registered on or after 1 July 2006.

If the vehicle is broken down and stationary on any portion of a public road, one triangle must be placed on the roadway at least 45 m from the back of the vehicle, facing traffic approaching from the rear.
